THE CIRCLE for Richard Svare
We’ve come along this circle,
turning, as circles do,
from the beginning,
turning,
now and then, as we must,
to the wisdom of that
sphere, to the bright, curious
curves spinning out a life
of clues, year after year,
and think upon
all we’ve seen
and what we’ve made
of this earth we call home.
We think of those
who grew this world
a little wider,
and taller—a mystery, turning
in the darkest night,
from which we all took flight
on wings of light and grace.
